The Gibraltar FA is delighted to have been able to put on matches, with the assistance of His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar, for visiting teams from the cancelled Iber Cup tournament on the Costa del Sol yesterday.

In the middle of a busy Senior Men’s international window, that saw Gibraltar’s U21 National team face Georgia yesterday afternoon, at the Victoria Stadium, the teams who had travelled to the area expecting to compete in the Iber Cup instead played matches concurrently on Pitch 2 and Lathbury Barracks Sports Complex throughout the day.

Several of Gibraltar’s youth teams from cubs including Europa Point, Mons Calpe, Lincoln Red Imps and FCB Magpies played against the travelling teams from Brazil, Australia and a Campo De Gibraltar select.

The Association was also able to provide youth referees for the matches which provided an excellent opportunity for the young officials to take charge of fixtures featuring youngsters from abroad.

The whole logistical operation to ensure the visiting teams, who were in the area expecting to play in the Iber Cup, were able to enjoy fixtures in Gibraltar, was sorted within twenty-four hours.

The Gibraltar FA would like to express its gratitude to HMGoG for assisting with the organisation and logistics of these matches, without which this would not have been possible.
